Bug Description

I use IBM laptop with celeron D processor. I run Kubuntu 7.04. After suspension, when I tr to login back, the system says 'unlock failed'. This happened even if correct password was typed.

I feel (Not for sure) that NUMLOCK gets enabled during this process.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Have you tried disabling number lock? Could you also try switching to tty[1-4] via Ctrl+Alt+F2 and type there to see if the correct characters are being typed? Thanks in advance.

The problem is num lock getting turned on. In my laptop when num lock is on characters such as U,I,O,P,J,K,L,M gets translated as 4,5,6,*,1,2,3,0.

And while trying to login in tty2 I was able to turn off num lock and login, in graphical mode that wasn't possible.

This bug might have escaped to those who use desktops but I use a IBM N3000 laptop.

Solution :

Auto turn off numlock while loging in after suspension

OR

modify software so that it displays num lock is on and lets user to turn off num lock by pressing numlock button.

Another question is why is num lock getting turned on after suspension?

Does your laptopt have an LED indicator of the Num-lock status? What happens if you try to turn it off by hitting the numlock key while the password box is visible?

I'm sorry, I reported wrong in last comment. I am able to toggle the Num-lock after suspension, and can log in. But there is another problem. When I log in , my mouse pad / touch pad stops working,

OK these were the steps I did

1. I suspended my computer, when I want to wake my Lenovo 3000 up I did step 2
2. The NumLock was ON so I toggled it and my touch pad wasn't working
3. I restarted X server using ctrl+alt+bckspace

Result : My toch pad did not work. I had to restart my notepad for things to be normal again

Cant this be done automatically. What I mean is, in Windows there is no need for me to do all this stuff to make my touch pad work, it works by default! Any way lets see how 7.10 does on18th Oct.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
