Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic

After today's update to linux-image-2.6.20-15 feisty fawn does not boot.
Boot in save mode displays:
...
...
sata_nv 0000:00:07.0: Using ADMA mode
ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xf88e2480 ctl 0xf88e24a0 bmdma 0x0001d400 irq 21
ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xf88e2580 ctl 0xf88e25a0 bmdma 0x0001d408 irq 21
scsi0 : sata_nv
usb 1-1: new ful speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)

At this point the boot process stopps and a hard power of is necessary.

The same occur with linux-image-2.6.20-14 (the latest one).
I could temporarily solve this error for 2.6.20-14 by replacing initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic through initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic.bak from Thursday 12th or Friday 13th. (I don't now the exact date)

You will find a attachment of lspci -vv and dmesg.log from the last linux-image-2.6.20-14-generic with replaced nitrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic.

Please note, that this doesn't occur on my Thinkpad Z61m

Recieving similar errors as previously posted on AMD64 Ubuntu.

I to was forced to boot to a previous kernel image (2.6.20-14)

I got exactly the same problem, freezes after ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SCONTROL 300).

This lspci looks like sata_nv, which means that 2.6.20-15.25 should fix your problem. Please try that when it becomes available (a matter of hours).

Very good work, with the newest kernel-update system works well again
Thank you, great work.

Note:
At the first boot with the new kernel, the nvidia-kernel modul could not load
properly. I've to reinstall nvidia-glx and nvidia-kernel-common. Then it
works again. Maybe you will put a sticky note into the forum if you received
bug-reports about this issue.

Best regards and keep your great work going on

Frank
