Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

i did a complete fresh install of Kubuntu (daily image from april, 12th),
today my system did freeze (actuall when i was afk)

i had some applications running: amarok, kmail, nothing special.

the music falls into a very short loop, mouse is frozen,
keyboard doesnt take input (alt + ctrl + f1 or alt + ctrl + backspace)

here are two logs i copied from KSystemlog and pasted:
the freeze happend at ~ 14:18. after that i did hit the reset button and immediatly started KSystemLog when i was logged in..
[edit: i see a memory corruption and a strange 1 hour jump. i did run memtest a few days ago, 5 cycles without errors]

syslog:
http://www.ubuntuusers.de/paste/9189/

Xorg.0.log
http://www.ubuntuusers.de/paste/9190/

i hope this isnt a duplicate..

regards,

Michael

I've had the same kind of problem for several month now (it actually began after I switched from Dapper to Edgy). I'm running 2.6.20-15-386 now, but I still have these random system freezes, with the same kind of short sound loop. It happens almost everytime I reenable the flash plugin and play for a few minutes. It also happens sometimes with mplayer or vlc.
No hint from memtest either. No log in /var/log/kern.log, or in /var/crash...

oops, forgot to mention it also happens when I copy large files (or lots of small ones) from my USB hard drive. Still no clue...

those random freezes at my machine were caused by a somehow defected onboard-lan device.

using a pci network card fixed this issue for me
