Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-14-generic

The latest kernel update (2.6.20-14-generic) hangs on boot about 3% in on the progress bar. A recovery mode boot gives the error "Unable to find /dev/disk/by-uuid/<disk-uuid>", then drops into a BusyBox shell.

2.6.20-13-generic boots fine.

Same error here. I suppose your undetectable harddrive uses S-ATA? All of my other harddisks (P-ATA and external usb drives) are detected without any problems.

Dell GX280 one PATA disc,
hangs on 3 % , last messages are the mounting of the disks.
It stalls after that. No log messages are written (So it cannot find the disks here )
The USB system works (keyboard was recognized)

My issue too. Anyone know how I can get .13 kernel, as I cleaned them up recently? I have a install disk, so can chroot. anyone give me an apt-get line to get an older one? Or are they gone from the repos?

SATA drive isn't recognised here, yes. It seems to hang after finding my IDE DVD-RW drive, then fails with the message I posted. Keyboard is recognised, Alt-SysRq-B does reboot the machine.

Same problem here; I too am running with a SATA drive. After installing the update to -14, my system hangs after grub and at about 3%. Running an Asus A8N-SLI deluxe motherboard with a single 160gb Seagate SATA drive.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
