Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-image-
Hi folks,
My english isn't very good, so I hope that you can understand me.
During the boot process, using the ubuntu 6.10 with any 2.6.17-10 Kernel for x86 arch (386, gerenic, server, etc), the system crashes with kernel panic.
I tested a new kernel compiled from vanilla sources, using the .config of the Ubuntu kernel 2.6.17-10, and the things goes fine. I think the problem is related to VIA VT6410 IDE RAID controller because, in the past, the machine had similar problems caused by it. The problem was solved in Ubuntu Dapper because the support to the device was embedded in the code of the module via82cxxx.
I verified the module and the code wasn't removed. So I suppose that one of the patches applied by Ubuntu over the vanilla sources causes the problem. Follow the lsmod and lspci outputs:

Helton,
is this lsmod output being generated with the vanilla kernel using the .config from ubuntu?
Did you take a look at ubuntu's patches regarding this specific device? (By the way, could you please attach a lspci -n here too?)
