Toshiba Toshiba Satellite Pro plays out of both speakers and headphones until you convince it it's an HP

A co-worker with a Toshiba Satellite Pro noticed that plugging in her headphones did not mute the outside speakers. I did some googling and on an experimental whim created an /etc/modprobe.d/sound-hackery file that just has:

options snd-hda-intel model=hp

Oddly enough, this seems to have done the trick. Now, her laptop is *not* an HP, so I consider this hackery sub-optimal. This may be more a problem with hardware autodetection than with the driver itself, but I was hoping that at the very least I could get a less preposterous solution than what I've just done.

I've got a Toshiba u200 laptop and the same problem.
The solution "options snd-hda-intel model=hp" works very weel so thanks.

Finally, what can be the link to Bug #22876 ?

I confirm. The sound was very low and the audio jack were not functionning properly until I added the sound-hackery file !

Oddly, it sometimes doesn't work and I have to reboot.

I don't know if it related to options snd-hda-intel model=hp, but I have now a noisy shuffle in the speakers. I hear it for the first time after installing and launching audacity but it might be there from longer.

Does anyone also have shuffle in his speakers ? (it can be heared with headphones too)

This but is not present anymore in feisty. I had to remove "model=hp" in feisty and all work fine (otherwise the volume of speakers was very low).

Bug #92989 has the solution to the low volume on feisty.

I no longer got the low volume in feisty by removing all options on my sound-hackery.conf file. It works "out of the box".
