Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-headers-2.6.17-10-generic

suspend-to-ram and hibernate-to-disk don't work properly.

I'm running the linux-headers-2.6.17-10-generic kernel on Edgy.

This is the laptop :

I am not sure whether this is the appropriate package to file this bug against.

Let's elaborate a bit on "don't work properly" :

hibernation / suspend seems to go wrong and/or returning from suspend/hibernation

Sometimes it seems to work without problems although lines like this one seem to always occur in /var/log/syslog :

Oct 26 08:34:17 T-2500 kernel: [17180181.384000] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:04:00.0 disabled
Oct 26 08:34:17 T-2500 kernel: [17180181.596000] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:03:00.0 disabled

interesting part of lshal :

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_PNP0b00'
  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_PNP0b00' (string)

  info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer' (string)
  info.bus = 'pnp' (string)
  linux.sysfs_path_device = '/sys/devices/pnp0/00:03' (string)
  linux.sysfs_path = '/sys/devices/pnp0/00:03' (string)

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_PNP0303'
  info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pnp_PNP0303' (string)

The syslog warning :

Oct 26 08:34:17 T-2500 kernel: [17180181.384000] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:04:00.0 disabled
Oct 26 08:34:17 T-2500 kernel: [17180181.596000] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:03:00.0 disabled

had to do with these devices :

03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)
04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 20)

I added ipw3945 and sky2 in this part of /etc/default/acpi-support :

# Add modules to this list to have them removed before suspend and reloaded
# on resume. An example would be MODULES="em8300 yenta_socket"
#
# Note that network cards and USB controllers will automatically be unloaded
# unless they're listed in MODULES_WHITELIST
MODULES="ipw3945 sky2"

But it didn't have any effect. (sky2 is the module for my gigabit ethernet)

Hey ubuntu_demon. Sorry for the huge delay. Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test the suspend-to-ram part of your bug using the LiveCD, and the hibernate with Hardy installed. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not running this kernel anymore. I'm running Gutsy. I can't run Hardy from disk yet because I can't connect to my wireless network using Hardy (which I reported).

I will try out suspend-to-ram using the Hardy live cd and report here :

I'll close this bug against the old kernel then. Thanks for keeping up with the other bug you mentioned.
