Bug Description

Boot pauses for about 2 minutes where the message:

[ 15.891495] ACPI: Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x2

...is visible on screen. After about 2 minutes, the boot process resumes (next message shown on screen is "activating swap..."). I do not see the ubuntu logo, progress bar or any other artwork at all during the boot process.

As far as I can tell everything works fine once booted, but I would like to get to the bottom of why it is taking so long to start up. I think this problem began when I updated to the 2.6.17.10 kernel from 2.6.17.8, so presumably it is a bug. I guess I can re-install an older kernel to check if it will help.

From dmesg, I see an ACPI exception logged immediately before the message that I see on screen:

[ 15.891490] ACPI Exception (acpi_processor-0693): AE_NOT_FOUND, Processor Device is not present [20060707]

I found a report of the same problem on the forums, but no explanation or resolution, and I can't find the problem recorded here Launchpad.

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
