Binary package hint: acpi
in a recent fresh edgy install, suspend-to-ram doesn't work on my dell latitude d820, at least not out of the box. If gnome-power-manager is running, neither the gnome "suspend" functions nor the "StandBY" key have any effect when pressed. If, however,I do a killall gnome-power-
updating my dapper install to edgy broke acpi more completely, so that suspend-to-ram results in a crash.

gnome-power-manager elements of this bug fixed in recent dailies (october 5 2006). suspend-to-ram now takes place, but appearsto be complete as described above: bluetooth indicator and number lock/capslock lcd's still illuminated.
