Bug Description

System crash during boot process with error 4 on usplash :

When I use the 'Edgy Eft Knot #3' CD, the system hang with the following message :

33.228074 usplash[887] : segfault at 0FFFFFFab rip 02B818726F622 rsp 07FFF23977310 error 4

So, I download older versions and as I download the Knot #2 CD : the system hang with the same error ; but with the Knot #1 CD the system hang with a test pattern or a test chart (une "mire" en français).

Find bellow the result of :

1/ uname -a
2/ cat /proc/cpuinfo
3/ lspci -vv

My system (AMD64 Atlon dual core, 2Go of memory) is currently installed with Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS, Dapper Drake and work perfectly well. The test of the 2Go of RAM is OK.

Please let me know if you want more informations.
Thank for your great job.

Same beavior with the "alternate" version except that the i386 seems to works well until the disk partion phase. I stop the installation there.
With the AMD64 version "alternate" downloaded at the same time and run on the same computer the boot failled after :

Hello,

Sorry, my post (2006-10-05 12:18:52 UTC) was done with the beta version
of Eft downloaded this morning...
So, I can confirm that the same problem is present in all the available
Eft version -- see my first post for the differences --.

I actually use Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS and this version (AMD64) works
perfectly (for me) and the problem above doesn't exists on it.

Tanks for your help.

I'm very disapointed about the new official version.

I just re-install the Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS on my system because the install still continue to crash even if I use the gksu "update-manager -c" method.

Nothing change since the beta version and the system still hang on the boot splash screen that is in black and withe instead of color as I can see on an other plateform.

My system is (Siemens Scaleo HA 1313 Pro08.) running perfectly the 6.06 version.

Any idea ?
