Bug Description

keyboard does not respond after kernel has loaded.
Some reports of this in the kernel 2.6.* on websites affecting
debian installer - says to recompile kernel with keyboard option.

tried boot options - no apci etc. none work.

there is a long pause after the display frame buffer line at the
bootup sequence - then goes into a menu and keyboard freezes.

tried disable frame buffer - no affect.

downloaded test 9 - and tried day 10/10/04 build same problem.

Athlon xp 2400 - 256mb ram. ps2 keyboard and mouse.
Winfast K7 motherboard.

Does anything happen if you press alt+f2? What about num lock and scroll lock?
Is the keyboard truly not working at all? This would be very unusual for a
PS/2 keyboard, rather than a USB keyboard

Total lock up, tried num lock, scroll lock but num lock light stays on fixed.
alt + f2 doesnt work. not even ctrl-alt-del - so i need to reset computer.

Definately not a USB connector - a green ps/2 like the mouse.
I tried booting with linux keybd=uk or =es and this time the boot hangs at
the following line rather than going into the country menu:

debian-install/keyboardmap=uk (or something similar)
then the machine is unresponsive and needs to reset.

I had this same problem installing an a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. Passing
nolapic as a boot option fixed it for me. Have you tried booting with noapic,
nolapic, or both?

Good call. Please try those, and pci=noacpi and acpi=off as well (if one of
those doesn't work)
