Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6-amd64-k8

I have an ABit AV8 motherboard with a Via Velocity gigabit ethernet controller onboard.
No matter whether there is a cable connected or not, ethtool reports that the link status is "yes".

While this is not a huge problem, it does mean that the Network Manager applet always believes it can use a wired connection, which is not the case and prevents it attaching to my wireless network automagically.

Przemysław: Please don't change bug statuses without reading and understanding the bug. 2.6.15 is the Dapper kernel, which is still supported in the Server profile until 2011.
