This is intentional. Too many CD-ROM devices fail to work correctly when DMA is
enabled, and this prevented many users from being able to even install Ubuntu,
so it is disabled by default. We will need the support of the proposed hardware
database (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/HardwareDatabase) in order to enable
it automatically.
