Bug Description

PCMCIA wifi card from LG, model LW5400N does not work by default in dapper fligth 5. This card contains a Texas Instrument ACX111 chip. It is handled by acx driver.

Problem is that driver defaults to 2.3.1.31 firmware version which does not work for this card. Forcing firmware version 1.2.1.34 fix the defect. This defect is related to the following defects:

#30766: which I think should be now moved to "Confirmed".
#26703: Some comments in this defect point to the firmware version problem
#23787: which I think should be now moved to "Confirmed".

However, being a different card from a different manufacturer I open a new, different defect.

Creation of a new bug report is required in /lib/firmware/2.6.15-18-686/acx/readme.txt if default firmware does not work. It also asks for the output

Today I upgraded to kernel 2.6.15-19 and it tries to load incorrect firmware again. Worst than that, firmware version 1.2.1.34 has been removed.

That firmware is there for me. Are you sure you have the updated linux-restricted-modules package installed?

Today I upgraded to kernel 2.6.15-20 and it works. It loads the rigth firmware now :D

I think we should leave this defect still open. When you release a new .iso file including last changes, I will do a clean install and I will test it again.

This is a regressive defect in kernel-25. It was working in kernel -23 but -25 tries to load incorrect firmware again.
