It still looks suspiciously hardware-related, but if the floppy drive works well on other computers or under Windows, then it must be a kernel bug. Thank you for checking this again. However, this problem is way too complicated to fix it in Breezy, so a fixed Dapper will have to do (only six weeks left! :) )
