Try booting the latest Herd4 i386 ISO: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/feisty-desktop-i386.iso

Then follow the suggestions in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelSuspendDebugging. This might tell us what device driver is causing your suspend problem.
