Bug Description

(I tried filing this under package linux-image-2.6.12-9-amd64-k8-smp but
bugzilla wouldn't let me.)

The linux-image-2.6.12-9-amd64-generic kernel boots just fine with the
/etc/modules created by the installer. The file contains the modules:
lpmousedev, psmouse, rtc, sbp2, sr_mod

When I install linux-image-2.6.12-9-amd64-k8-smp and then try to boot with it,
the system throws up a kernel panic where messages fly by very fast and don't
seem to stop. (most panics I've seen through out a screenful of messages and
then stop)

If I move aside /etc/modules, I can boot with linux-image-2.6.12-9-amd64-k8-smp
and then manually modprobe all of the above modules with a problem.

The system is a Sun W2100z Java Workstation with dual Opterons.

Try disabling each module in that file till the panics stop (Add a # in front of
the module name to disable it).

Ben, this was actually a red herring. See bug 18997.
