I just installed Hoary-array-7 (someone should fix the default distribution so that grub-install works properly) and then downloaded the latest AMD64 smp kernel. However, when I try to boot the kernel I get a similar "kernel panic" error message.

I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400 on an ASUS A8N-SLI PREMIUM motherboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated - or I'm going to have to jetison the Ubuntu distribution.
