Bug Description

I tried to install the hoary preview on a NEC desktop computer (preinstalled
with WinXP).

It contains a dvd writer ND-3500AG. It is not recognized by the kernel (nothing
in dmesg about it). Installation process asked for others drivers or manual
module choice.
It worked well with Knoppix (2.6.8 kernel).

In order for us to debug this properly we need the following:

Output of dmesg
Output of lspci

It seems to be a duplicate of #1440 as I have SATA.
It worked well with hoary rc.
