Bug Description

At job, after upgrading many Lubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit systems from 4.10 to 4.13 they are (most of them) unstable.

Acer TravelMate B117-M (SSD disk) freeze at boot or show errors at startup such:

unexpected irq trap at vector

similar to https://forum.manjaro.org/t/manjaro-kernel-4-13-unexpected-irq-trap-at-vector-e3-error/30942

At home (no signed kernel, old machine) my VirtualBox freezes also the machine, as explained at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1736116/comments/14

Absolutely! I got errors on my Desktop PC with Nvidia GPU during the upgrade when it was building modules for the graphics card. When I updated my laptop with intel graphics, things were not stable (graphics-wise). Reverting to kernel 4.10.0-xx things are back to normal. Had to remove on both computers the newer kernel and anything related to HWE

Terrible upgrade, I see many posts and bug reports in the last hours with everyone having similar issues...

4.13.0-30.33 available with dist-upgrade

We installed it on 12 machines. It seems to be stable.

I'm sorry!

dist-upgrade on our 16.04 LTS HWE systems installs 4.13.0-31

It seems to be estable, as I said.

Curiously, if I turn off the system, connect/disconnect the battery (battery reset hole at the bottom of the laptop) and turn on the system, NO errors.

At next boot, errors reappear.

Our systems are stable with later kernels:

uname -a
Linux xxxxxx-lubuntu 4.15.0-47-generic #50~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 15 16:06:21 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

At home (were I have virtualbox) I switched to Oracle package to solve the problem and I didn't revert my installation to the 16.04 package:

dpkg -l | grep virtualbox
ii virtualbox-5.2 5.2.28-130011~Ubuntu~xenial amd64 Oracle VM VirtualBox

Thanks!
