Attempting to open a tty session during the boot process causes the entire system to be frozen in an infinite loop until I shut down via the power button.

Bug Description

Whenever I press Ctrl+Alt+F3 when the computer is showing the boot process or the ascii text for Ubuntu, the entire system freezes, even the mouse cursor, and I am forced to reboot the machine.

I expected the boot to continue and then open a tty session once the system finished booting, not a complete freeze or lockup.
