After latest update screen randomly flickers

After the most recent automatic update, my screen will flicker randomly. This is not screen tearing but a random, arbitrary flicker/tearing that gets worse when i use calculator, terminal and firefox. It is particularly bad when using firefox. It's reasonably stable when using google chrome.

Forgot to add - i'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, everything is up to date and working perfectly except this issue.
