Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

When upgrading from linux-restricted-modules-common 2.6.24.13-19.42 to linux-restricted-modules-common 2.6.26-1.2 some files previouly installed are not removed.

Especially /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video , thus preventing the modprobing of restricted video modules because /sbin/lrm-video has been removed (called in /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video)

$ apt-cache policy linux-restricted-modules-common

Confirmed. Note that the linux-restricted-modules-2.6.26-1-generic package does not seem to contain the video drivers.

The lack of video drivers in l-r-m is bug 243863

I've heard comments that the removal of the video drivers from this package is an intentional restructuring, moving them into other packages. If so, then l-r-m-common needs to clean up this obsolete conffile, and bug 243863 is invalid. If not, then this bug is invalid, and the problem is that the drivers are missing (bug 243863).

Reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/UDS/May2008, this seems intended. They are working on separate packages for nvidia/fglrx. [1]

I'm closing this report because it has been fixed somewhere between 2.6.26-1.2 and now (2.6.26-4.10) . /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video still exists but is empty. Hence this is no more an issue.

Thanks.
