Might be related? On first attempt in the updater GUI in Ubuntu 23.10 (latest STS stable version), I got

So apparently that worked OK, but it still seemed strange, so I installed build-essentials and did apt install --reinstall linux-modules-nvidia-535-6.5.0-17-generic and got: (error messages translate to the same "no such file or directory" and "no rule to make target... stop.)"
