Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Compiz works perfectly, but does not render any shadows, regardless of any shadow settings in the decoration plug-in.

This is under AMD64 + nvidia binary driver - Up-to-date hardy, as of 1st April '08. I don't know if the same thing happens on x86_32.

er, what? This is not a duplicate of #186382, this is a different bug. Everything behaves correctly, except shadows just aren't drawn. There are no glitches or anything, they just aren't there, regardless of settings.

Could this be unmarked as a duplicate please?

No, read more closely. That bug covers both cases.

No, you read more closely; no commenter on the 'duplicate' bug has had perfect window decoration rendering but no shadows - At no point has compiz rendered shadows for me (although it does render shadows fine on the task-bar previews), and at no point has it mis-rendered the window decoration.

This bug isn't about glitchy rendering, it's about shadows being skipped, for whatever reason. If the duplicate bug covers this situation too (which it doesn't), it needs to be split into two separate bugs, as these are clearly two different issues.

I apologise for the angry tone I'm taking here, post-op tonsillectomy pain has left me irritable :) Nonetheless, I don't believe this to be a duplicate though, please consider both situations fully.

No problem :)

My GF8600GT sometimes has pink shadows, sometimes yellow and sometimes none at all. I'm running 171.06, and the corrupted decoration issue seems to be fixed. There should be a new driver out soon (the windows version was released yesterday), lets see if it's any different, and maybe undupe this then if the issues are not related.

As if to further make me look like an idiot, after ages of completely fine behaviour (except for the lack of shadows), the missing window-decoration bug hit me just now, followed by the weird 'most of screen remains shadowed after gksu dialog' glitch...

So, you're right, this is almost certainly a duplicate and I apologise for questioning :) Will comment again if a later driver fixes these other issues but this remains, thanks for your patience!
