Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new

Resuming from suspend seems to goes OK, gnome session is restored and applications loads in the same state they where before shutdown, but when providing user interaction with the gnome destop, X-session or gnome became progressively irresponsive and finaly only mouse movements are possible. Ctrl+alt+backspace effectively kills the session, but once relogged inside gnome, same problems occurs again. Hard reboot fixes the issue.

steps of irresponsiveness :
- Icon on the destop (no contextual menu)
- Programms does not launch
- Windows closing inefeectivce
- ...
It all happends within minutes after a resume from Ram.

more details on my system :

uname -a : 2.6.22-10-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 22 08:11:52 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Please tell me if I can help in any way to get a mode precise diagnostic..

I would have helped to have known what card you have this is generally reported in the output of
lspci -nn
. There's a slim chance you are seeing reported on http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=94258 ...

Thank for the link, however, it seems that the problem is not the same ... mine leads to a complete session hangup exept for the mouse, but without UI slowdowns before that.

After a few more tests, it seems that the issue might be related to a gnome session problem, and that progressive crashes occurs when high-loading the session or other gnome programs ... i've seen that bug witch might describe the actual problem : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/74682

Just to rule something out, can you check whether things are better if you are suspend and resuming using the nv driver?

I tried that one allready, but using nv driver is worse. Resume gives me a black screen, no mouse nor keyboard and hard reboot necessary. I think it's another issue ...

I attached Xorg.0.log when the issue happens. Notice that in the log you can see the same entries that repeat from "Open ACPI successful" and "Intel (0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 3". This happened every time I tried to do something in my desktop but with no success (because of the issue)

The original problem was in regards to the nvidia graphics driver. If you are still seeing this bug in the latest version of Ubuntu (testing the release candidate of the upcoming Ubuntu 9.04 would be great), I would recommend that you file a separate report against the xserver-xorg-video-intel package.

Setting back to fix released.
