Restricted Drivers Manager not working with Mobilty Radeon 9700 - Ubuntu 7.10 Alpha 1 (32 bit)

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 7.10 Alpha 1 (32 bit) on an Acer Ferrari 3200 laptop, it has an Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card.. but it always shows Radeon 9600 in linux.. I think because they have the same ven and dev IDs.

When I open the "Restricted Drivers" program it says "ATI accelerated graphics driver"
I click on "Enabled".. the driver downloads.. but nothing happens after that.
I click close and reboot - I log back in and type flgrxinfo in the terminal and get:

Every time I use the "Restricted Drivers" program now the "Enabled" button is disabled. I click on the "Enabled" button again and the text grays out. I reboot again and it still doesn't work.

It looks like the xorg-driver-fglrx package isn't working with my card.

I tried "aticonfig --initial".. but when I rebooted the x server failed to load.
