Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx

Motherboard: PCCHIPS M871G with SIS760GX/964 chipset.
Processor: Sempron 2500+ (AMD64).
Video board: Nvidia GeForce 6200 256Mb.

The system crashes if I try to use X with NvAGP other than 0 (no AGP).

dmesg says:
  agpgart: Detected SiS 760 chipset
  agpgart: AGP aperture is 4M @ 0xe0000000
Even thou I set aperture to 256mb at boot setup.

Also, lsmod says:
amd64_agp 13252 0
sis_agp 9284 1
agpgart 37072 3 nvidia,amd64_agp,sis_agp

On Breezy, amd64_agp module is not loaded.

I've tried it on Breezy and Dapper 32 bits.
Strangely it works on both Breezy and Dapper for AMD64 archtecture.

Thanks

Guys, it is working on Dapper 32 bits.

I just renamed 'sis-agp.ko' to 'sis-agp.ko.bak' and everything worked.
On dmesg, agpgart says aperture is 256mb as I set in boot setup and
nvidia-settings also says it is AGP8x now.

I will try something like this on Breezy, since I still didnt change to Dapper.

I can confirm the presence of this problem on my computer, with both breezy and dapper, running in 32 bit mode. My motherboard is a "WinFast 760GXK8MC".

Fix also confirmed. Thanks a lot!

Fix unfortunately breaks hibernate and sleep (STR), which are more important to me at the moment. I guess I should try 64bit mode again some time.

I've just upgraded the system to kernel 2.6.15-25-k7, including restricted modules. The upgrade-manager asked me to reboot my system, as expected. For my "surprise", the system crashed as soon the X started.

I had to rename sis-agp.ko as I told you before to get a chance to complain about this bug again.

I think X window is more important than hibernate. And I know how to fix this problem, but not everyone can do it.

Could you fix this packages, please.

This fixed the bug #34144 too. When I renamed the sis_agp.ko, glxinfo reported "direct rendering: Yes" and now all works nicely...

The same freeze happens in Edgy 32, but renaming sis_agp.ko fixes it.

Also, in Edgy 64, AGP works fine.

Have you tried on Feisty if sis-agp works with the newer kernel?
