[nvidia-glx] Problems with refresh rate after installing proprietary nVIDIA drivers

Bug Description

Before I installed proprietary nVIDIA drivers, when I went to System-> Preferences-> Screen Resolution, I had a resolution at 1024x768 on 85Hz. Just like it's supposed to be. After installing proprietary nVIDIA drivers, my resolution was still at 1024x768, but on 50Hz. I switched that on 85Hz in nvidia-settings and when I went to System-> Preferences-> Screen Resolution to check it out, it was on 100Hz. Every time I make changes in nvidia-settings, I save them (/etc/X11/xorg.conf), and every time I restart X, it's always back on 50Hz at 1024x768 resolution.

Thank you for your bug report.

Punting from Ubuntu -> linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20 because this is an nvidia binary driver issue.

Stefan:
Could you please attach the following file to this bug report:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
?

Setting to needsinfo pending reply from Stephen.

This is probably a dup of other "nvidia resolution" bugs like Bug #91292 . The nvidia binary drivers seem to be rather weak at correctly detecting the correct monitor refresh ranges when compared to the open source nv driver...

Well, here's mine:

Section "Monitor"
    # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    VendorName "Unknown"
    ModelName "Hansol"
    HorizSync 30.0 - 72.0
    VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
    Option "DPMS"
EndSection

What should I put?

Stefan:
Is the tile of this bug accurate - is it about resolution or is it really about refresh rate? If it's the latter then I think I should have asked you to look at Bug #104105 ...

I'm having problems with refresh rate only.

Yes, now it shows the proper refresh rate when I go to System-> Preferences-> Screen Resolution.

I added this at Section "Device" in xorg.conf:

Option "DynamicTwinView" "false"

So it now looks like this:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName "GeForce4 MX 440"
 Option "DynamicTwinView" "false"
EndSection

Thank you.
