Comment 2 for bug 5264

I Think that the problem is with the fglrx kernel module, as the older fglrx driver (the one provided with breezy, before the move to 2.6.15) worked fine,
 even with the rc version of X7.

X seems to be working fine with the "radeon" driver (except the 3d acceleration, of course),
so my guess is that the problem is with the driver module.

note: i've used "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg to activate either the "ati" or the "fglrx" driver, no funcky messing around from my part..

my guess is based on a similar problem with on windows xp partition - i use the omega radeon driver 26.25a (available from http://www.omegadrivers.net/)
(as it provides some extra wide-screen resolutions, not available with the official driver)
whenever i try to upgrade the driver - either an omega driver or official one - i get similar result - the screen stays blank, and the system
stops responding.

but, as i'm niether a X or kernel hacker, so my guesses are, well, only guesses.
