Bug Description

A laptop with

0000:02:02.0 Communication controller: Agere Systems WinModem 56k (rev 01)

hanged during an upgrade. It had to be forced to shut down with the power button. When investigating the problem, i straced dpkg --configure -a, and saw that the last actions before the hang are open(/dev/ttyLTM0) and some ioctls with the fd during wvdial's postinst.

I blacklisted the ltserial module, and was able to finish the upgrade without a problem.

The Ubuntu kernel versions installed to the computer: (the bug can be reproduced with both of them)
2.6.15-22-686
2.6.15-23-686

Simon, is this another case where you need to make wvdial ignore scanning certain devices, or is this plain and simple just a bug in ltmodem?
