hard lockups with linux-image-2.6.28-3-rt

Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image

when attempting to boot with linux-image-2.6.28-3-rt, the system locks up hard.
I don't know how to troubleshoot this since it locks up hard.
It has happened with a dual core intel and a dual core amd athlon.

I was able to boot by removing the nvidia-kernel-180 stuff

was able to boot with nvidia-173 .. but xorg wouldn't start.

This is not a bug in the linux-meta package, moving to the linux-ports package as this is the -rt kernel.
