Bug Description

Sony tx brightness keys doesn't work anymore in edgy. They work fine in Dapper and as I remember at first in edgy but now it doesn't work anymore.
The problem is that the relevant file /etc/acpi/sonybright.sh hasn't changed since dapper so it seems that the keys aren't recognized anymore or the daemon which calls sonybright.sh ignores them.
The TX series need /proc/acpi/sony/brightness to change brightness which works fine if I do it on my own.

Maybe it is a Kernel issue. It was initiated in Dapper. As well in Dapper as in Edgy brightness keys aren't shown in xev nor in dmesg but at least they work in Dapper.

It is still annoying but I have found/made a workaround. I have changed the permissions of /proc/acpi/sony/brightness with "chmod 666 /proc/acpi/sony/brightness" so that every user can change brightness. This has to be done on every start so /etc/rc.local is a good place for it. If there are security concerns a special group could be created but most times laptops are single user systems.
However, after changing the permissions brightness could be changed through user with the script /etc/acpi/sonybright.sh and the parameter "up" or "down".
E.g. I have defined an input action for key combination ctrl+alt+up or down.

It is definitely a kernel issue since it works with my self compiled kernel but not with the standard 386 one. I haven't tested it with the generic but I think it has the same problem.

After installing the latest updates it works fine with the standard kernel too. Don't know what was the reason but it works.
