Bug Description

I am running Hardy Alpha on an amd x2 Turion notebook with geforce 6100 Go chipset. Kernel version is 2.6.24-2-generic. Using nvidia restricted drivers. The video is scrambled on all of the virtual consoles and they are unusable. Xorg is fine except when resuming from DPMS screen blanking the video is scrambled. If I switch to a virtual console and back it corrects itself, but I have yet to find a way to solve the virtual console issue.

This has been confirmed in a thread on the ubuntu forums by several individuals. It affects the system anytime x is running and the nvidia restricted drivers are being used, including shutdown.

I have upgraded my laptop to Hardy Heron beta and have exactly the same problem with the geforce 6100 Go chipset (linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-12)

I have the same case here, in 3 presario f564la notebooks.

Consoles with garbled graphics, xorg working fine, but when the computer wake from suspension the graphics are corrupted, i have to press crtl-alt-f1 and then crtl-alt-f7 to get normal graphics in xorg.

Some times the laptops just hangs, i have to power off manually...i don't see nothing in the logs, maybe is nvidia related too

I can confirm that I am having the same issue on my HP DV9410us, which has an Nvidia 6150go video chip...

The problem does not exist on the "nv" driver, however the restricted driver as well as the beta drivers have the same problem... This does lead me to believe that it is a problem with the driver from Nvidia, however on the Nvidia forums I only see posts stating that the driver developers aren't able to duplicate the issue...

It's been happening for a looong loong time.

Any fix yet? Im surprised this is not solved. This bug have other variants like, in a Compaq C730LA you close and open the lid, and the screen returns but REally messed UP.

Only way to fix it is hiting ctrl+alt+f6 and ctrl+alt+f7 back.

Y also miss my VTs

Confirmed in Compaq c730la and HP dv6221la.

fix?

Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.
