I had the same problem on my T61. I initially changed the SATA config in the BIOS to "compatibility" as a workaround.
Then I found this other bug

where it says it's actually a BIOS problem.
So I did the BIOS upgrade (and a drive firmware upgrade as well for good measure), set SATA mode back to "AHCPI" and now it seems to be working fine.
