My surface pro 3 is experiencing random but frequent freezes on 4.8 (ubuntu hwe) kernels. This seems related to 2.4 GHZ wifi, as it happens more often when downloading data via 2.4 GHz networks.

I was able to see this error (file skb_over_panic.txt attached) via ssh, as it is not written to /var/log/syslog anymore.

First this error occurs:

Immediately hereafter:

After this the devices completely locks up, and it has to be shutted down by pressing the power button for about 10s.

This did not happen with the tigerite kernel (https://launchpad.net/~tigerite/+archive/ubuntu/kernel) in about 2 years of usage.

The latest mwifiex firmware blobs from git://git.marvell.com/mwifiex-firmware.git (folder mwrl) are installed.
