Bug Description

After upgrading the kernel to 3.11.0-17-generic, my machine won't boot. It just shows a dark purple screen. No boot splash appears. If I boot the recovery kernel it ends up repeating this message over and over again:
nfsmount: need a path

If I choose to boot 3.11.0-15-generic instead, the machine is booted up within 10 seconds and works fine.

I am unable to switch to other consoles when trying to boot 3.11.0-17, so I can't find any error messages, but from messages given by the recovery kernel, it is probably doing the same thing (trying for a network root instead of the harddrive) over and over again. It would seem that it can't figure out how to talk to the harddrive?
I am doing EFI boot on a Samsung 840 SSD and the root partition is a standard ext4 created automatically by Ubuntu 12.04 install.

Updating to 3.11.0-18-generic did not fix the problem. 3.11.0-15-generic still boots fine. This problem probably lies some place else. Can anybody help debug?

Anders Bruun Olsen, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4481#bios an update to your BIOS is available (F9). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Thank you for your understanding.
