Bug Description

On Karmic Beta, /proc/cpuinfo reports one core for my core 2 duo laptop (Macbook Pro 5.3).
It also reports the wrong frequency (1596Mhz instead of 2.6Ghz), but that was already reported in another bug report.

It probably also uses one single core.

(Ubuntu Karmic Koala Beta 64bit)

Following today's kernel update, it now sees 2 cpu (but still at the wrong frequency)

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately.]

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and set the Status to Confirmed, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

I have a similar problem, not sure if it is the same bug, it may be

I have an older box with 2 2.4 GHz Xeon processors only one cpu is started with the current karmic kernel 2.6.31-14-generic

the upgrade from 9.04 -> 9.10 left some 9.04 kernels in /boot 2.6.28-16-generic starts both cpus
