unity greeter: failed to idle channel 3

nvidia graphics card on ubuntu 16.04 LTS (only works with 4.8.0.-41-generic). display crashes when in sleep mode and coming back up, or when booting up. If it has come up normal, it stays normal and does not crash.

4.8.0 is not supported anymore, please feel free to open a new bug with a newer kernel if you're still experiencing this issue.
