Hello Michal, thank you for taking the time to open this bug report.

Unfortunately there is not enough info collected to look into this issue.

For example, the 6.8 kernel for jammy is currently only up to version 6.8.0-40.40~22.04.3, so it isn't clear which kernel you are having issues with, and there is no info on the hang/freeze from any logs.

Can you please run "apport-collect 2077260" to add the required logs and system information please?

Thank you.

I have an equal behavior but for Ubuntu 24.04.
So, it seems to be kernel version related.

Starts happening just after the last update some days ago (turned the machine off for two days and only today on again).

I will try to add the logs via apport-collect.

So, it seems, it is not related to linux-signed-hwe.
But the behavior is really very similar as described above.

I will try to open a new report.

I can see this behavior on a ThinkPad T410 with Intel graphics.

Rolling back to kernel 6.5 or 5.15 solves the issue.

I have updated the pack this is opened against. The apport-collect command should collect better information this time. Can you please try to run it again?

I've read through all the data and looked at the differences in kernels but I can't see anything standing out yet. Can you please re-run the apport-collect to gather more info?

I reproduced the problem by starting into the kernel version 6.8.0-45. It happened at Sept, 11th approximately 23:30.

So, I collected the logs (after having restarted in 6.5.0-45) from with that time stamp using the following command (just the auth* logs are skipped):
sudo grep -lH --exclude=auth* "Sep 11 23:" * 2>/dev/null | xargs sudo tar -uvf ~/Downloads/logs.tar && gzip ~/Downloads/logs.tar

Please find the log archive attached as logs.tar.gz.

Hope that helps.

After having looked around, I found this kernel bug report and a solution there: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219432

Adding "intel_iommu=igfx_off" to my kernel start parameters seems having solved the problem.
At least my latop is running now for nearly an hour with kernel 6.8.0-57. Before it get frozen with that kernel within the first 5 minute after boot.

Just another confirmation from my side: Added the kernel parameter permanently to GRUB and and let it run over night - still running, no freeze after 8h.

Thanks Denis – it works perfectly now! 🙌

I added intel_iommu=igfx_off to my GRUB config as you suggested, and finally upgraded to the 6.8 kernel without issues. Not only does it boot fine now — I think the display even looks a bit better. 😄

Really appreciate your help and clear explanation!
