Bug Description

When I give the suspend command and then try to resume, system hangs: motherboard fans and leds are ON, but screen remains black and keyboard and mouse are unusable. In this way, entire system is unusable for me. I am working to develop new apps with python ans Nodejs and I need several virtual machines. In order to start the full developing environment, it takes to much time without the option of using suspend/resume feature.

Could you please try to test the suspend with the Ubuntu Linux kernel 6.8 (linux-generic package)?
The issue seem to be related to the Nvidia GPU driver. Could you give a try with the nouveau driver as well?

Hi Mr. Roger Knecht,
Thank you for considering my issue.
On the same computer/machine, I'm actually working with ubuntu 20.04,
with which I have no problem with the suspend/resume cycle.
Some months ago, I started to test ubuntu 24.04, but I encountered this
issue,
with which it is impossible for me to continue with my work of developing a
new app
using a complex environment with nodejs, python and a number of
virtual machines.
It takes me a long time (ca. 1 hour) to start and configure my full
 development
environment, consequently without the opportunity to suspend/resume the
system,
ubuntu 24.04 is for me unusable.
I am not an ubuntu specialist, consequently I don't know how to test with
Ubuntu Linux kernel 6.8 (linux-generic package). At boot time I have no
option
to start with kernel 6.8.
Please, can you tell me what have I to do to test such an option?
In the past, I tried different times to reload the driver of Nvidia GPU but
the results
were always negative: nothing changed.
Somebody suggested me to update the bios of motherboard to the last
revision too, but for this job I'm not a specialist either, so that I'm
afraid that, this way,
I could have problems booting/suspending/resuming ubuntu 20.04 too
(that is now working!), and that would be a disaster.
Please, take into account that: stopping the full environment of ubuntu
20.04, executing
some tests on ubuntu 24.04, restart ubuntu 20.04 and its full environment
will take
me about two hours.
In this perspective, If we can solve the issue with 2-3 attempts,
that would be very well!
Otherwise, I prefer to continue to work with ubuntu 20.04, complete my app
within the second half of this year and then see what I can do with ubuntu
24.04,
in case, with a new computer too.
So, If you have a simple solution, that would be very welcome.
Otherwise, I will continue, as long as I can, to work with ubuntu 20.04.
Thank you for understanding.
Alberto Costantini

Hi,

The crash seems to be in the nvidia driver's code itself, but 470 series nvidia driver has been EOL for almost a year now. It was never validated with 6.11 kernels as the kernel was released months after the series was obsolete.

Please use a more modern driver. We provide 535, 550 and 570 at the moment.

Hi,
thank you for your suggestions.
I will try some attempts with Nvidia drivers 535, 550 and 570
within the next few days in the perspective of finding a solution
to the issue with the suspend/resume cycle on my system
with ubuntu 24.04.
I will give you a result response as soon as possible.
Thank you again for your kindness.
