Bug Description

[Impact]

NV31 XTX/XTW cannot boot into Ubuntu 22.04.3 after upgrading distro to latest Ubuntu 22.04.3 kernel and firmware

Not repro with NV21 XL or W6800

[Fix]
Cherry-pick the latest PMFW https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/amdgpu/smu_13_0_0.bin

[Other Info]

The IMU FW included in Linux firmware package needs to be paired with the latest PMFW smu_13_0_0.bin for Navi31

Jammy firmware updates only include latest IMU firmware.

@Juerg:

Internal team looked at it, VP with Navi31 XTX boards, VNP with the others.
So the testing with OEM-6.1/OEM-6.5 on other Navi31 from earlier bug is accurate.

Confirmed that upgrading SMU binary (just dropped into /lib/firmware/updates/amdgpu) fixes the issue.

Considering the regression impact; can we please roll this extra file out?

Hello Alvin, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into lunar-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/20230323.gitbcdcfbcf-0ubuntu1.8 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-lunar to verification-done-lunar. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-lunar. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Reverting to version 1.2 worked and so did upgrading to 20230323.gitbcdcfbcf-0ubuntu1.8

Thanks for fast solution!

Another confirm here from a 7900XTX user that 1.8 fixed what broke in 1.7 (had to revert back to 1.5 before when 1.7 hit).

I'm sorry I've tried both proposed and without proposed and the issue remains ! Actually It was always on to begin with then I turned it off just to make sure this wasn't causing it. And now I've turned it back on again. Tested this friday the 13th from what I understand the package was updated the 10th!?
