I really don't know any more details ... I simply used Software Updater, allowed it to install the recommended updates, and I received this error

It looks like an error running a script provided by lilo following the initrd update. Are you actually using lilo?

Added task for lilo, as it seems the problem may come from scripts installed by that package.
