Bug Description

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1718 Laptop, with Ubuntu 8.10, 2.6.27-7-generic, the thing is, i had wifi with kernel 2.6.27-5-generic (16 days ago), but then there was an Update for the Kernel *5*, and it stops working, and its not even detected at all.
On the Propriety Drivers, it shows the Atheros drivers, but i can't get it to install them.

Printscreen of Propriety Drivers: http://pr0n.no-ip.org/stuff/01.png.

On ifconfig it only shows, "eth0" and "lo", i have no ideia what's wrong, but it was some update of the Ubuntu.

lspci : 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

Thank you in advance.

definitely not working now.
ubuntu developers seems to be good at knocking out users using 242x atheros.
First when I installed 8.10 snapshot one month ago, all I needed to do to get wifi working was to disable (quite absurd!?) atheros drivers in hardware drivers.
After recent update when ath5k module was got rid of and substituted by mac80211 (which does not support 242x) the 8.10 users don't have any option anymore.

I understand the trend to get things working in more elegant way (e.g. hal drivers), but I don't think it's ok to left users without choice which drivers for wifi to use. Is it really that big problem to ship new kernel package for intrepid with ath5k compiled as module?

My Thinkpad has the same card and after the recent kernel update, my wifi broke too. I'm still using the older kernel to get things going.

Running and Asus900 with Atheros AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter as well, no wifi at all. LAN works great, but no wifi.
