Lincity-ng crashes on startup

Binary package hint: lincity-ng

Just installed into a fully updated Ubuntu 10.04 desktop 32bit install. When you start the game from the menu, you see nothing apart from a quick flash on the screen.

Start it from the CLI and the following is reported:

It happened to me also up until Ubuntu 23.10. This seems fixed in 2.9.0 in Ubuntu 24.04.
