This is from the upgrade log:

run-parts: /etc/initramfs/post-update.d//runlilo exited with return code 1

Lilo hasn't been used by default in Ubuntu for many years now so you must have done something to install it. At any rate the problem looks to be with a post-update script installed by lilo and not with linux-firmware, so I'll change this bug to be against that package.
