DDNS updates aren't automated

Bug Description

Binary package hint: likewise-open5

Using Ubuntu 9.0.4 (Jaunty) I’ve successfully installed likewise-open5 and joined a domain. When this join operation completed and the server was rebooted, I expected that the client would automatically update our dynamic DNS servers (MS-DNS), but this didn’t happen.

When I manually run the lw-update-dns tool, the update is sent and the client becomes registered (though the client used a server in a different AD site).

The lw-update-dns tool should run automatically when joining the domain, after a reboot, and then on a regular basis to keep the records fresh.

For reference, my Ubuntu server has been assigned a static IP address and is not using DHCP or BOOTP.

On *nix systems, the DHCP client is not used on a interface with a statically assigned address as it is in Windows. The DHCP client in Linux doesn't know that it should send a DDNS update. The lw-update-dns tool should be compensating for this.

Oliver

Hello again,

I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 using the likewise-open5 package and the same problem occurs. Was this fixed in 9.04 and not 9.10? ...

Should I be using a different package?

Oliver
