Bug Description

Binary package hint: likewise-open

I tried to unplug the network cable and login, the system says "no connection to DC, using cached credential" and it works perfectly.

But when I plug the cable again the system keeps saying that there's no connection to the DC also if I can ping it correctly.

The problem still happens also after a reboot and I can't get the system to work again.

Similar for me. But login with cached credentials is still possible.

Restarting the service with "sudo invoke-rc.d likewise-open restart" with network cable plugged in helps here.

I reproduced it (likewise-open goes to "unplugged-mode and never comes back) but a reboot fixes it (or a restart of likewise-open, as cfrein suggested). You might be hitting bug 205111 on the reboot (likewise-open removes init script links on domain join, resulting in likewise not restarting automatically at reboot).

I reproduced the problem on the latest sources, I'll check if it is known upstream.

As suggested on the upstream bug, likewise-open does come back from unplugged-mode, after "winbind cache time" seconds (default is 900). Setting this to a lower value will make it reconnect faster, though it might not be needed, as using cache credentials is perfectly valid if its not permanent.

Keeping this open as a wishlist item, since it would be nice to have a "winbind reconnect timeout" that doesn't depend on the cache time so that we can set it to a lower default value than 900 seconds.

Note to self, for the 5.4 packages in Lucid this would requiring adding NetworkManager/dbus support to lsass:MediaSenseStart(). Currently this function only supports media sense on OS X.
