Bug Description

Okay, this one is truly bizarre.

With an up-to-date Oneiric (as of 20110809 1918 UTC), I cannot log in with lightdm using any desktop session *unless* I am ssh'd in from another machine and tail -f'ing ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Without tailing, the screen just flashes a few times and then returns me to the login screen. With tailing, I am logged in as expected. I tried this both with Ubuntu 2D (my usual desktop) and regular ol' Ubuntu.

thank you for your bug report, could log to a vt and see if you have stalling .ICEauthority or .Xauthority in your user dir? Does clean those fix the issue? Seems similar to bug #823718

Not sure what "stalling" means, but I rm'd .Xauthority (there's also a .ICEauthority file which I didn't touch), and now I can login like normal again. Why would this kill lightdm?
