“Are you sure you want to proceed?” message at login

Right after logging in to the Ubuntu desktop environment, a message like the one in the attached screenshot appears. I researched the cause and found several links (see [1] and [2] below) pointing to the cause: a command in either .bashrc, .profile or /etc/profile.d outputs to stdout. The solution is then to silence the command by redirecting its output.

However, this bug report is about the "unhelpfulness" of the popup message. As you can see, the window has no border, and at that stage, the system is not fully logged in yet, so there is no way to interact with it. Moreover, the message reads "are you sure you want to proceed?" but the only possible answer is "OK".

That leaves the user with no clue about how to fix the annoying message, that will appear at every login. I think it should be improved by providing pointers to the problem cause.

Note that this bug was reported in [3] already, but since it was filed against the wrong package, it was marked as invalid. Therefore it still persist in 16.04, although being found at least in 14.04.
